While everyone’s busy chasing windmills over this defund business, a much more important and winning battle is being given short shrift. Ben Sasse, a dark-horse conservative candidate for Senate in Nebraska, recorded this video in support of Louisiana Republican Sen. David Vitter’s efforts to make members of Congress and staff live by the Obamacare bill they passed.
“[T]he very people who forced Obamacare on the rest of us There is a Republican amendment in the Senate to eliminate the insiders’ exemption. And this is smart, because one of the best tools we conservatives have to repeal Obamacare is forcing our elected officials, who voted for this thing, into the horrible system themselves.”
Sasse decries Republicans in the Senate who are trying to avoid a vote on this thing. He calls out Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., by name, calling on him to lead the effort.
Conservatives want to fight — I get it. Here’s a battle they can actually win. The Democratic Congress in 2010 was willing to ruin its staffers’ health insurance in order to ram Obamacare through, and they should have to live with it. Whenever Congress gets around to fixing it, which I’m sure will be pretty fast, that’s a good place to demand concessions, such as delay of the full bill, cancellation of the individual mandate, repeal of certain taxes or insurance regulations, et cetera.
