Judging by how things have gone so far, Republicans will fare badly as the government shutdown — originally over Obamacare, but now lost in space — continues.

If Democrats have been made to suffer politically in the current conflagration, it is only in one spot – the vote they had to take to keep the Vitter amendment out of the bill funding government.

The amendment, which Republicans stupidly failed to focus on like a laser all along, takes away from Congress and legislative branch workers (who are required to buy their insurance from Obamacare exchanges) a special employer health insurance subsidy that no other American who buys insurance in the Obamacare exchanges can receive.

This ad from Rep. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., is an an early attempt to exploit that vote politically in his challenge to incumbent Sen. Mark Pryor, D.
